We just can't seem to get enough....of reading I mean. The children love books and we love reading them!
A few weeks ago, we had "what we called" your favorite book character contest. I wasn't sure exactly how well it would go over with asking parents with already busy schedules to find time to create their child's favorite book character and then on top of that create a costume.

We offered a first place prize to help with the thought of having to add a project to their already busy schedules as young parents.... I wasn't exactly sure what to expect. But, to my amazement they were pretty excited about the project.
As I opened up that morning, anticipating what the day would hold. Hoping that the families were just as excited as I was along with the teachers. As the families began to arrive I saw wonderful book characters, we had 2 Mickeys first to join us for the morning -shortly following one Very Hungry Caterpillar....
Oh my and one of my favorites, the Snowy Day character came to life. This is when my eyes began to water up. What an exciting day, to know that the parents were very interested and exited about our book character experience and understood the importance of our project. Not just reading books but creating an experience out of reading and bringing the characters to life during our reading time at school and at home. This was indeed an opportunity to build our parent-teacher partnerships even further as we create memories. Next in the line up was Hand Hands Fingers Thumb along with his drum and a very cool fireman in training. |
As I stated earlier, this had turned into a contest, we were all absolutely amazed when we saw another caterpillar from The Very Hungry Caterpillar mosey through the doors. This was indeed one of my best days in childcare. We finished our day with an awesome parade to show off all of our wonderful characters and all of their parents hard work of costume designing. It was truly a glorious day of pretending and play- and without further ado.... our grand prize winner another very hungry and very cute caterpillar.
